SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri lawmaker is pushing a bill that would require college students to pass a civics test before they're issued a diploma.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Republican Rep. Dean Dohrman introduced the bill to ensure Missouri's college graduates understand U.S. civics, citizens' rights and how the federal government functions.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Republican-controlled Missouri Legislature looks to complete some unfinished business when the 2018 session begins Wednesday, including efforts to further regulate unions and enact more restrictions on lawsuits.

This is the Missouri GOP's second year with historic power: Republican control of the governor's office and supermajorities in both legislative chambers.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri panel is recommending increasing the state's 17-cent fuel tax by 10 cents for gas and 12 cents for diesel to pay for road and bridge work.

Transportation taskforce leader Rep. Kevin Corlew on Tuesday said the fuel tax increase would bring in an estimated $430 million annually. That would fill a little more than half of the $825 million annual shortfall facing Missouri transportation.
