Jonesboro’s property maintenance code is up for a vote next month. Early voting is scheduled to start May third and election day is May 10th.
Officials are concerned the ballot language may be confusing to voters. Jonesboro City Attorney Carol Duncan says citizens need to know they are voting on the repeal of the code.
"I think both sides are concerned about this. Those who are for the code and against the code are concerned about the language. You need to really read the language carefully. If you are voting FOR, you are voting for the repeal of the code, which means it would go away. If you are voting AGAINST, you are voting to keep the code in place."
Also, citizens will vote on the alderman’s race in Ward 6. The seat became open when Tim McCall resigned in January.
