Public Meetings about Jonesboro Code to occur Wednesday

Two public meetings on a controversial property maintenance code in Jonesboro will occur Wednesday.  The City of Jonesboro is hosting the meetings in the Council Chambers of the Jonesboro Municipal Center.  Senior regional manager for government relations of the International Code Council will speak on the property maintenance code.  The Jonesboro City Council adopted the new code in December.  Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin broke a 6-6 tie on the code and it passed.  Those for the code say it is necessary to get rid of dilapidated buildings.  Those who are against the code say they are concerned about the interior requirements of the code, and they are afraid of CODE enforcement officers entering into people’s homes.  Perrin has established a moratorium period so people can learn more about the code.  The public meetings will take place from three to 4:30 and from five to 6:30 on Wednesday, February 17th.  The sessions will include a presentation and a question and answer session.
