Jonesboro Animal Control temporarily suspends surrender, adoption programs

The Jonesboro Animal Control has temporarily suspended surrender and adoption programs due to an outbreak of tracheal bronchitis at the shelter. Known as “kennel cough”, this form of bronchitis is spread airborne and can be spread when animals cough or sneeze.   Animal Control Supervisor Sgt. Larry Rogers says the outbreak can spread rapidly from one animal to another when they are in confined spaces.  Kennel cough can run its course, but if new dogs are brought in, the disease may persist.  The Jonesboro Animal Control says it will lift the suspension when the disease is no longer a problem.  The Animal Control will continue its other operations, including responding to a wide range of animal control complaints and issues.
