I-40 work means detours in St. Francis County

Improvements to Interstate 40 at the Hwy. 38 Interchange will require a traffic diversion onto the Interchange Ramps in St. Francis County, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation (AHTD) officials.

Starting Tuesday, August 5th at 11:00 pm, all traffic will be diverted across the Hwy 38 ramps between the hours of 11:00 pm and 5:00 am. Traffic will exit I-40 using the Hwy 38 exit ramp, cross Hwy 38, and be placed back on I-40 utilizing the existing entrance ramp. This diversion will allow crews to begin the removal of the existing bridge structure on Hwy 38. This work will be completed on Friday, August 8th by 5:00am.

This project is part of the 2011 Interstate Rehabilitation Program that will improve 455 miles of Arkansas’ Interstates in the coming years. APAC Tennessee, Inc. of Memphis, TN, was awarded the contract at $51,946,709.12. The project should be complete in late 2014.

Motorists should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com.
