Global demographic shifts, inflation, interest rates all concerns for farmers

Arkansas farmers should look at several factors in determining how they will face challenges this year.  Agricultural economist Dr. Jason Henderson from Purdue University’s Extension Service spoke during Arkansas State University’s Agri Business Conference.  He says three main factors should be thought about immediately:

Jason Henderson.  He says changing demographics worldwide could present many opportunities for farmers as developing countries demand more American-grown products.    He says the shifting landscape can especially be a help to Arkansas, since many countries love rice:

James Henderson.   He says some factors farmers should watch for are inflation and the Federal Reserve’s talks about hiking interest rates.  He says rates could rise by three percent in 2018.

Jason Henderson.  He says other challenges farmers are facing include low commodity prices and critical issues, such as water shortages.  Henderson also says a shift in world demographics could mean positive opportunities for American agriculture, especially in foreign trade markets.
