Deadline approaching for storm shelter applications

This notice from the Craighead County Office of Emergency Management:

The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) says they will once again accept applications for storm shelter rebates - for two days only.

The Arkansas Legislature approved the program to receive $1,250,000 for the new fiscal year and reimbursements will be awarded based on the date of installation.  The program was suspended the program back in 2012 due to lack of funds.

ADEM will only accept applications July 14 and 15, 2014. After that, ADEM will not accept applications again until July 2015. If you have a storm shelter and intend on submitting for the rebate please contact your county's Emergency Management Office as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.

Only homeowners who installed an above-ground safe room or in-ground shelter after January 21, 1999. ADEM will provide reimbursement for cost associated with individual above-ground safe rooms or in-ground shelter installation.  Reimbursements will be 50% of the associated costs or $1,000, whichever is less.

Homeowner must complete the shelter rebate application form and turn it in to their Local Emergency Management office with cost documentation.

PLEASE NOTE:

THE PROGRAM OPENS AT THE STATE ON JULY 14, THE APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN THE LOCAL OFFICE BEFORE THAT DATE TO BE PROCESSED AND INSPECTED.

THE DEADLINE FOR CRAIGHEAD COUNTY IS JULY 8 SO WE CAN COORDINATE INSPECTIONS OF SHELTERS. WE WILL TAKE PICTURES AT THAT TIME.
