Construction requires temporary bridge closure in Mississippi County

Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department

Construction work will require closing a bridge in Mississippi County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

Crews will be raising the Highway 150 Bridge over Interstate 55. The bridge will be raised about 17” for trucks that require a higher clearance while travelling on Interstate 55.  The work will require closing the bridge to traffic for approximately 30 days. This bridge is about 4 miles north of Highway 18 in Blytheville and about 1 mile south of the Missouri state line.

Detours will be signed and message boards will help to route the traffic around the site until it is ready to reopen in late March.  Both Interstate 55 and the east and west frontage roads will remain open throughout the construction. All traffic crossing Interstate 55 will have to use the Highway 18 Bridge in Blytheville or cross on the Missouri Highway “O” bridge close to Holland, Missouri.

The Highway 150 bridge closure will begin Monday, March 2nd and continue until late March.

The current bridge was constructed in 1960. It’s 326 feet long and 31 feet wide. Its clearance height is 14.5 feet.

The project is part of a $25.3 million job to reconstruct Interstate 55 extending from the Missouri state line to just north of Highway 18. The entire job is estimated to be complete in April 2016.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com.
