Bobby Long is now on Jonesboro City Council

Johnathan Reaves, KASU News

The Jonesboro City Council now has a new alderman.  Bobby Long defeated Dr. Richard Wang in a run-off for the Ward 6, Position 1 seat.  According to unofficial numbers, Long beat Wang 1,483 to 1,278.  Long addressed the media and told what he would do first.

“This is a new experience for me, so the first thing is to talk to all of the aldermen on the city council and learn my place there.”

He told what his priorities would be on the council.

“Obviously, we have flooding issues, police salaries, and there are other things on the horizon that I have not been able to dig into yet, but I will be learning.   I will also be getting up to speed on those things real fast so I can respond intelligently and be informed.”

He also stressed that the city needs to watch every penny that it spends and grows conservatively.

“When we grow we should grow efficiently, effectively and responsibly.  Everyone in this room pays taxes and everyone deserves to have their tax money spent properly so we are good stewards of that money.”

He will fill out the seat through December 31, 2018.  The numbers will be certified Friday.
