Arkansas State Gunman Pleads Not Guilty

KUAR Public Radio Website

The man responsible for triggering the active shooter alert at Arkansas State University in early December has pleaded not guilty to charges of making a terrorist threat, criminal possession of explosive material or destructive device, and terroristic threatening.

Friday the Jonesboro Sun reported Circuit Judge Brent Davis heard the plea for Brad Bartelt, 47, of Jonesboro.

Bartelt’s attorney asked Davis to reduce his $50,000 cash bond since he called 911 himself and warned students to stay away from him.  Davis refused to lower Bartelt’s bond saying he was willing to take his life and the lives of others at the same time.

Bartelt was arrested on December 10th after driving his truck onto the south lawn of the Reng Student Union.  No shots were fired in the incident.

Bartelt’s motion and plea hearing is set of March 2nd and he could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
