A-State Men’s Basketball Announces 2018-19 Early Signees

Arkansas State head coach Mike Balado announced today that three prospective student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball for the Red Wolves.

Forward Malik Brevard (Sanford, N.C.), guard Larry McLeod (Charlotte, N.C.) and guard Kobe Wilson (Humble, Texas) each signed NLI’s to join the Red Wolves’ program for the 2018-19 season.

JONESBORO – The annual Order of the Pack student spirit event is rescheduled to Thursday, Sept. 14, with the University of Miami Hurricanes’ cancellation of this Saturday’s game.

The 21st annual event will now precede what will be the home opener, the game with UAPB on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce has also rescheduled its annual Big Great A-State Tailgate to Friday, Sept. 15, in downtown.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — No. 16 Miami's game at Arkansas State on Saturday has been cancelled over concerns about Hurricane Irma, a powerful Category 5 storm that forecasters believe will affect Florida this weekend.

Getting to Arkansas for the game would not be the problem for Miami. Getting back to Miami would be the potential issue, and the uncertainty over what will happen with the storm led to the decision to err on the side of caution.

The game will not be made up in 2017.

The Big Ten Network announced Tuesday that it will televise the Arkansas State football team’s 2017 season opener Sept. 2 at Nebraska with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.

Arkansas State University Athletics Director Terry Mohajir introduced the next men’s basketball coach at Arkansas State.  Mike Balado spent the last four season as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville.

The ASU Red Wolves have a new Men's Basketball head coach.

Arkansas State University is looking for a new men's basketball coach after Grant McCasland resigned Monday.  McCasland is now the men's basketball coach for the North Texas Mean Green.  .  McCasland was 20 and 12 overall and 11 and seven in the Sun Belt Conference as the Red Wolves head men’s coach.

Nebraska, Miami Part of the 2017 A-State Football Schedule

JONESBORO, Ark. (3/1/17) – The Arkansas State Athletics Department announced Wednesday its full 2017 football schedule, which features the Red Wolves’ home opener against five-time national champion Miami, a pair of nationally-televised midweek Sun Belt Conference contests and their Homecoming game versus Coastal Carolina.


Baylor University has named Matt Rhule as its new head football coach.  In a release from the university,  Rhule will take over as the 27th head coach for the university.  He is expected to be named to the post tomorrow.

Could Blake Anderson be coaching at Baylor soon? Several media reports say that could happen, as Anderson is said to be in negotiations to be the next head coach of the Bears.

Anderson has signed a contract extension that would pay him $700,000 a year through 2019.  Anderson has won two Sun Belt Conference Championships while the coach of the Red Wolves.  He is 23-15 with Arkansas State.  

A-State Football Accepts Cure Bowl Invitation

JONESBORO, Ark. (12/4/16) – The Arkansas State Athletics Department announced Sunday that its Sun Belt Conference champion football team has accepted an official invitation to play in the 2016 AutoNation Cure Bowl presented by Florida Hospital on Dec. 17 at 4:30 p.m. (CT), when it will face American Athletic Conference member UCF.

The Arkansas State Athletics Department announced Monday that ESPN2 will broadcast the Red Wolves’ final regular-season football game, a Dec. 3 Sun Belt Conference contest at Texas State.

With the addition of national television, the outing at Bobcat Stadium is now set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. (CT).  A-State will be making its second appearance this season on ESPN2, but has also seen three contests televised on ESPNU, one on the SEC Network, one on CBS Sports Network and four on ESPN3.

ESPN 3 to Broadcast A-State Football Game Versus Central Arkansas

The Arkansas State Athletics Department announced Monday that ESPN3 will broadcast the Red Wolves’ final non-conference football game of the regular season, a Sept. 24 home contest against Central Arkansas that is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Arkansas State University will introduce its new men’s basketball coach Wednesday.  The Red Wolves have hired Grant McCasland to take over the program.  According to Arkansas State University’s Department of Athletics, a press conference will be held at the Convocation Center’s Auditorium at eleven.   

4 A-State Volleyball Players Receive Honors

4 players from the A-State Volleyball team have received honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

On Tuesday, the AVCA placed Carlisa May, Markie Schaedig, Mallory Warrington, and Darby Graff on the Southwest All-Region Team.

May was also named Freshman of the Year for the Southwest Region.  According to a press release, she is the first A-State player to achieve the honor in school history and is the only freshman to earn a spot on the All-Region Team.

The Arkansas State football squad clinched the Sun Belt Conference championship with a 52-28 win over New Mexico State that saw the Red Wolves pile up 605 yards of total offense, while the A-State defense forced four turnovers Saturday afternoon at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces, N.M.

A-State Volleyball Wins SBC Championship

The Arkansas State volleyball team won the 2015 Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship and clinched the number one seed in the SBC Tournament with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-20) sweep of Appalachian State Thursday night at the Convocation Center in front of an all-time single-match record crowd of 2,517.

– The Arkansas State women’s golf team enjoyed its best performance of the Memphis Intercollegiate on Tuesday, recording a final-round 299 at the Ridgeway Country Club as it climbed from 14th place at the conclusion of the first round to ninth in the final standings.

A-State Men’s Golf Climbs Four Places at Sam Hall Intercollegiate

The Arkansas State men’s golf team shot a final-round 275, its lowest score since 2009, Tuesday at the Hattiesburg Country Club as it jumped from 13th to ninth place in the Sam Hall Intercollegiate final standings.

Not only did the Red Wolves record their lowest single-round score since 2009, it was also their second lowest in over a decade.  A-State’s 275 was the second lowest score of the day among the 15-team field, and it helped the squad produce a combined three-round 865 that was its best at a non-home event since the 2011-12 season.

A-State baseball to hold "Alumni Weekend" in October

The Arkansas State baseball program will hold its annual “Alumni Weekend” for former A-State baseball players and their families Oct. 2-3 in conjunction with the Red Wolves’ football homecoming festivities throughout the weekend.

Head coach Tommy Raffo and the rest of the A-State baseball program would like to encourage all former players and their families to come back and reconnect with their former teammates.

A-State men's golf team starts season in Mississippi

The Arkansas State men’s golf team opened its 2015-16 season Monday at the 13th Annual Sam Hall Intercollegiate, recording a two-round 582 at the Hattiesburg Country Club that put the Red Wolves in 13th place with one round left to play.

A-State, competing for the first time under new head coach Mike Hagen, ended the first round in eighth place among the 15-team field after recording a 289.  However, the Red Wolves added 12 strokes to that total for the second 18 holes and dropped to 13th place.

A-State women's golf team starts season at Memphis

Competing in its first tournament of the 2015-16 season, the Arkansas State women’s golf team completed the Memphis Intercollegiate’s opening day in 12th place after recording a two-round 634 at the Ridgeway Country club.

The Red Wolves ended the first round in 14th place with a 324, but climbed two places by cutting 14 strokes off that total for the second 18 holes.  Four of A-State’s six competing golfers lowered their score in the second round, including sophomore Olivia Loiacano with a team-best 75.
