JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Investigators from the St. Louis prosecutor's office have visited the Missouri Capitol in the investigation of Gov. Eric Greitens, and one lawmaker suggests the probe has expanded to include a look at the Republican governor's use of "dark money."

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner launched an investigation in January after Greitens admitted to a 2015 affair with his St. Louis hairdresser. Greitens has denied taking a compromising photo of the woman as potential blackmail.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A judge is weighing on whether to void the Missouri Board of Education's decision to fire the former education commissioner.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that attorneys representing the board argued in circuit court Tuesday against lawyers representing Springfield teacher Laurie Sullivan, who sued the board in November.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Missouri is collecting and investigating opioid prescription data through a statewide drug monitoring program to identify doctors and clinics that overprescribe painkillers.

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. (AP) - The penalties for injuring or killing law enforcement animals would increase under legislation named after a dog that was stabbed last month.

The Kansas City Star reports that Gov. Eric Greitens met the Cass County Sheriff's Department K-9 named Champ on Wednesday. Champ was stabbed in the neck Dec. 11 while helping Harrisonville police search for a 17-year-old suspected of stealing from a Wal-Mart store. Champ returned to duty Jan. 8.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Missouri Democratic Party is calling on Gov. Eric Greitens to sign an affidavit legally certifying that that he did not take "compromising photographs" or attempt to blackmail a woman with whom he had an affair.

Democratic Party Chairman Stephen Webber said in a news release Wednesday that the Republican governor should "set the record straight" by signing and legally certifying a five-point affidavit. It also would deny taxpayer money was used to facilitate or conceal the affair.

Greitens' spokesman, Parker Briden, declined comment.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens has appointed a new member to the Missouri State Board of Education less than an hour before it's expected to discuss whether to fire the state's top education official.

Greitens on Tuesday appointed Jennifer Edwards, the president and co-founder of advocacy group Decoding Dyslexia Missouri. She's from Springfield.

The appointment was announced shortly before board members were set to meet in Jefferson City. They're expected to discuss whether to fire the state's top education official, Commissioner Margie Vandeven.
