Arkansas State University

     Bob Simpson, a fixture on the arts scene at Arkansas State for the past 34 years, has elected to step down from full-time duties and retire from the university.

Simpson, a faculty member in the Department of Theatre since 1983, was technical director and director of theatre before becoming department chair. For the past two years, he also served as director of Fowler Center, and most recently arranged for the current season of concerts that begin in October.

Hutchinson to conduct tour of computer science in schools

Governor Asa Hutchinson today announced that he will be traveling to several Arkansas schools throughout August and September to promote computer science among students and school districts. Schools, dates and times are listed below.

Former Arkansas State University Chancellor Dr. Tim Hudson who resigned Wednesday is also the subject of a second internal audit. 

Obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by KAIT, the document included email exchanges between Hudson and a partner for the ASU-Jonesboro campus with an unknown family member’s resume attached.

JONESBORO – Dr. Tim Hudson resigned Tuesday, effective immediately, as chancellor of Arkansas State University after four years of service on the Jonesboro campus.

Dr. Charles Welch, president of the ASU System, said he accepted Hudson’s resignation Tuesday evening.  Welch named Dr. Lynita Cooksey, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research at A-State, as the acting chancellor.

Curt Huckaby, the founder of Arkansas State University’s successful and nationally ranked rugby program, died Tuesday, June 21. Huckaby also served as a Craighead County District Court judge and was an attorney. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

A rededication of historic Wilson Hall at Arkansas State University was a celebration of how a new osteopathic medical school will help serve the needs of those who are underserved in the Delta.  115 students have been accepted into the Class of 2020, 45 of those are from Arkansas.  There are 150 on a waiting list.  Over a ten-year period, more than 1,000 physicians are expected to be produced in Arkansas.  The public-private partnership is between the New York Institute of Technology and Arkansas State University…and Wilson Hall is the new NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine at A-State.

Groundbreaking ceremonies took place on the Arkansas State University campus to celebrate construction of graduate and undergraduate housing. 

Over 500 beds will be located on the east and west sides of the campus.  A 167-bed complex for graduate students will be located on the west side of the campus and a 350-bed complex for undergraduate students will be on the east side. 

A separate 750-bed facility is being built just off of East Johnson Avenue in Jonesboro.  This is part of a public-private partnership with Zimmer Development Company of Wilmington, North Carolina. 

Arkansas State University System

The Arkansas State University Board of Trustees today approved campus budgets for 2016-2017 with minimal increases in tuition and fees as part of a focused effort to keep higher education affordable.

ASU System President Chuck Welch said a 1.9 percent rise in tuition and fees for the flagship Jonesboro campus this fall will be the lowest of any public university in Arkansas this year. The annualized cost will increase $150 to $8,200.
