Applications Open for A-State Campus Querétaro

Applications for admission to Arkansas State University’s Campus Querétaro are now being accepted, A-State officials announced Wednesday at a media event in Querétaro.

“This is truly a historic day for Querétaro, but also for Arkansas State University,” Dr. Chuck Welch, president of the ASU System, said at the news conference. “Today we embark on a journey together that will change lives, change our university, and change this country. I want to thank Ricardo González for the vision and passion he has put into this project.”

The 3rd annual Arkansas Science Festival is the state's only science festival.  It is a two week event meant to be a celebration of science.  Dr. Amy Pearce is professor of psychology at Arkansas State University and the festival's organizer.

"The goal is to bring people to our events where they can have fun,"  said Pearce.

Sexual assault and domestic violence crimes are on the rise across the nation, and Arkansas is no exception. 

Around the start of the Fall 2016 semester, A-State students were alerted of a sexual assault incident that took place on campus, which had many shaken up.  In the wake of the incident, KAIT reported that the victim of the incident along with students will hold a gathering to raise more awareness of the crime.

   The interim chancellor of Arkansas State University says he intends to bring healing to the Jonesboro campus, as well as to look at internal communication issues and shared governance on campus.  

A-State Researchers Receive $5.8 million Grant from National Science Foundation

Two biological sciences faculty members at Arkansas State University will head up research projects involving three institutions and supported by $5.48 million in funding from the National Science Foundation.

One of the projects represents the largest competitive research award in the institution's history.

Miss A-State to Receive Award at Miss America Pageant

Miss Arkansas State University Bailey Moses will walk the Miss America Pageant stage this week to accept an award.  It won't be a crown, but Moses will treasure it for what it means to for the children of Arkansas.

A senior from Cabot, Moses has helped raised more than $19,000 for Arkansas Children's Hospital, a member of the Children's Miracle Network.

Jonesboro and Craighead County sales tax receipts up more than 5% year-to-date

Jonesboro has collected $11.6 million in city sales and use tax in the first seven months of 2016, up 5.1% over the same period in 2015, according to the city. Craighead County sales tax collections totaled $12.8 million in sales and use taxes, up 5.2%, or $639,000, from the same period in 2015, according to the county.

JETS Red Wolf Express Schedule for A-State, Toledo Game

  The JET RED WOLF EXPRESS is back this weekend for the A-State vs. Toledo game on Friday, September 2. If you don’t want the hassle of dealing with stadium parking, you can park downtown and ride the express.  

Simply park your vehicle downtown and JET can shuttle you to and from the game. JET buses will unload passengers at the Northwest corner of the Centennial Bank Stadium just outside Gate 11 in accordance with instructions from the A-State Athletic Department.

Arkansas State University System President Charles L. Welch today named Dr. Doug Whitlock, President Emeritus of Eastern Kentucky University, to serve as interim chancellor of Arkansas State University effective Sept. 12.

New Exhibitions to Open at Bradbury Art Museum

    The Bradbury Art Museum at Arkansas State University opens to the public with a 5-6:30 p.m. reception on Thursday, Aug. 25, featuring a new series of exhibitions and a brand new look.

This group of shows features portraiture by four artists: Delita Martin, Nina Katchadourian, Tad Lauritzen Wright and Andrew Kilgore.

  With the start of classes just days away, Arkansas State University’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) organization is joining forces with the Target store at the Mall at Turtle Creek to hold a back-to-school event, Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m.-noon. The store is partnering with the College of Business student group for this effort.

The store will have 2,000 coupons toward purchasing school supplies and 1,000 gift bags to give to A-State students at the store while supplies last. In addition, Target plans to create a fun shopping experience for the students that day.
