LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A former federal consumer product regulator dropped his bid for the Arkansas Legislature Wednesday and is now trying to unseat the state's Republican attorney general.

A proposal to legalize casinos in Arkansas has been revised to allow expanded gambling at a greyhound track and horse track that already offer video poker and other electronic games.

Driving Arkansas Forward submitted its proposed constitutional amendment to the state attorney general's office, which had rejected an earlier version of the proposal. The AG must certify the measure's wording before the group can begin gathering signatures to try and place it on the November ballot.

The mid-term elections are rapidly approaching.  The filing period for candidates is underway and Craighead County Clerk Kade Holliday expects 2018 to be an active election year.

“We have a gubernatorial race, as well as a gubernatorial primary, on the Republican side,” said Holliday.  “There will also be a contested race in the U.S. District 1 race, as well as several state offices that will be contested.  I think there will be a lot of engagement this year.”

Here is a list of the final candidates filing for local offices in Craighead County.  The following list was provided by the office of the Craighead County Clerk.
