Winter Weather Forecast and Preparations

  Forecasters are predicting more winter weather and have issued a Winter Storm Warning for most of the KASU Listening area. 

The National Weather Service in Memphis issued the warning to include all of the listeners in Arkansas, Tennessee, and the Missouri Bootheel, which does include Craighead County. 

National Weather Service Meteorologist Taylor Trogdon says heavy winds are expected to create blizzard like condition which could impact travel:

Trogdon says travel will be an issue Friday morning and advises to take care of business today.

The warning is in effect for 6pm tonight until 6pm tomorrow.

In related news, several events scheduled for today have been canceled due to the weather.  According to the KAIT-TV website:

  • Department of Human Services Court has been canceled in Craighead County. 
  • ASU-Mountain Home is closed today and the Prometric CNA testing has been canceled. 
  • In Lawrence County, the Poll Worker Class at the Powhatan Community Center has been postponed to Thursday, January 28, at 6pm. 
  • The Cattleman’s Meeting in Lawrence and Randolph County have been postponed to next week. 
  • The Lawrence County Courthouse is closed today and court has been canceled. 
  • The Blytheville District Court cases have been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 27.
  • Williams Baptist College is closed due to the weather today.

Light freezing rain this morning has also created some roads to be covered with ice.  According to iDriveArkansas.com, U.S. 63 between Hardy and Jonesboro is covered with ice.  U.S. 49 north of Paragould connecting to U.S. 62 is also covered with iced this morning.  Please proceed with caution if traveling.
