Many would agree that this has been a very contentious election year as voters prepare to select the next leaders of our municipal, state, and national governments.  However, after voting on your preferred candidate you're then face with a list of amendments and acts on your ballot--asking if you are "for" or "against."  Do you know about the issues on the ballot and what what they mean?

While it has been important to talk about the candidates who are running for office and what they stand for, it is also important to be informed about the issues on this year's ballot.

This part one of a 3 part series called "What's the Issue?".  I asked Craighead County Clerk Kade Holliday for a simple and unbiased explanation of this year's ballot issues and what a "for" or "against" vote means on them.

In this segment, we talk about issues 1 and 2 on the ballot.

The popular name for issue 1 is "Proposing An Amendment To the Arkansas Constitution Concerning The Terms, Election, And Eligibility Of Elected Officials."  This issue deals with extending the term limits for certain elected officials.  You can watch a video explaining the issue as well as read details on what this issue is talking about on the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Research and Extension website here.

Issue 2 is called "A Constitutional Amendment to Allow the Governor to Retain His or Her Powers and Duties When Absent From the State."  This amendment is an update to an old law.  You can find details of this measure here.
