Very close run-off election in the State Senate District 21 race

Less than 100 votes separated the winners and losers in both the Republican and Democratic run offs for the State Senate District 21 seat. According to unofficial results from the Craighead County Clerk’s office, John Cooper defeated Dan Sullivan in the Republican race by 67 votes..Cooper picked up 1,486 votes and Sullivan received 1,419 votes. On the Democratic side, it was a lot closer. Steve Rockwell defeated Radius Baker by 24 votes. Rockwell picked up 1,215 votes, while Baker received 1,191 votes. The four candidates were vying for the state senate district 21 seat that was left vacant after former state senator Paul Bookout of Jonesboro resigned amid questions over how he spent campaign funds for personal items. John Cooper and Steve Rockwell will now get ready for the special election, which takes place January 14th.
