In honor of the selfless and noble work of first responders who came to the aid of so many in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the City of Jonesboro, through the efforts of law enforcement, firefighters, and Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), is again participating in ‘Together We Read’, a project that helps children understand the critical work of first responders in the community.
On Friday, September 11, 2015, firefighters from the Jonesboro Fire Department, law enforcement personnel from both the Jonesboro Police Department and the Craighead County Sheriff’s Department, and VISTA volunteers serving Jonesboro will read to young children in the morning and afternoon. They will read from books from the Corporation for National and Community Service especially designed for young children.
As part of the program, law enforcement officers and firefighters will also be displaying and explaining the use of life-saving equipment to the children.
