Sunflower Products Recalled for Listeria Concerns

Various sunflower and tree nut products have been recalled because of Listeria.   

SunOpta announced it was recalling their Sunflower kernel products.  SunOpta produces Planters Sunflower Kernels.  The recall affects products with the best by dates between ‘3/6/2017’ and ‘3/8/2017’ (UPC: 029000012714).

Kroger also announced a recall of their brand of Sunflower Salad Toppers, Sunflower Kernels, and Cranberry Delight Trail Mix. 

  • Kroger Salad Toppers:  UPC 0001111002127; Sell By: DEC0316 and DEC0416
  • Kroger Sunflower Kernels:  UPC  0001111061877; Sell By:  DEC1116, DEC1316, and DEC 1416
  • Kroger Cranberry Delight Trail Mix:  UPC 0001111089869; Sell By:  MAR0917, MAR1017, MAR1117, and APR1117

Consumers are urged to not eat these products and to return them back to stores for a refund, or to just throw them away. 

According to the Food and Drug Administration, Listeria could pose a threat to young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. 

Some symptoms in healthy individuals include high fever, nausea, and diarrhea.
