Stone County escapee reportedly in custody

A man who escaped yesterday from the Stone County jail has been caught overnight in Independence County.  KAIT television reports 37 year old Shane Mitchell escaped from the jail around 4:15 yesterday afternoon and was believed to be headed to Jonesboro.  Early this morning, the Stone County Sheriff’s Department reportedly received a call saying Mitchell had been caught in Independence County and was in custody.  Stone County jail records indicate Mitchell was being held for a probation violation and he is expected to be charged with fleeing.  Officials are investigating how Mitchell escaped from the jail.
