A-State professor going to South Carolina to help in flooding response

Arkansas State University Assistant Professor and American Red Cross Mental Health Specialist Brad Holloway deployed today to South Carolina to join Red Cross disaster response teams providing care and relief to thousands in South Carolina affected by historic floods.

Holloway will join four Arkansans from Little Rock, Hot Springs, Conway and Ft. Smith also deployed to support the relief efforts.

“Currently more than 400 Red Cross workers are on the ground providing emergency shelter and safety assistance,” stated Pam Knapp-Carver, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Serving Northeast Arkansas. “The Northeast Region, the state of Arkansas as well as the country is lucky to have someone with Brad’s experience and dedication.”

Holloway will start his assignment in Columbia, South Carolina then relocate to Florence. “Brad may very well move to various locations as recovery progresses,” stated Knapp-Carver. “Since, the flooding continues to cause evacuations and the need to move people, Brad’s work to keep people steady and to help them cope with this enormous recovery will be critical to their recovery.”

For persons wanting to help the free Red Cross disaster care being provided around the clock to disaster victims in the Carolinas, California, as well as home fires across Arkansas, please make a donation by visiting redcross.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS or texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
If individuals are interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer, please visit redcross.org or redcross.org/arkansas. “Volunteers are the true backbone of the Red Cross,” stated Knapp Carver. “They perform amazing care everyday around northeast Arkansas that rewards them as well as the lives they touch.”
