St. Bernards Healthcare has officially opened its remodeled and expanded Cancer Care Center in Jonesboro. The 34,000 square foot center combines cancer care services in one location on the St. Bernards medical campus. The ground floor is where PET and CT scans occur, as well as radiation oncology. The first level is where the hematology and oncology clinics are located. Kevin Hawley is oncology director at St. Bernards. He tells what the new center means for the region.
"We have been able to bring our radiation oncologists and our medical oncologists to one area that will provide comprehensive diagnostic testing and it is connected to our medical center, via walkway. We feel this will help in providing better care for our patients."
The Cancer Center currently treats about 150 to 200 patients a day. The Cancer Center is the first of a four-phase $137 million dollar master plan that also involves changes in the St. Bernards Heartcare Center, the construction of a new five-story Surgery and Intensive Care Tower, relocation of emergency services and renovation to the current medical center.
