Search Committee Discusses ASUJ Chancellor Candidates

Arkansas State University System

Officials at Arkansas State University are narrowing down the list of potential candidates for the Jonesboro Campus chancellor position.

The chancellor search advisory committee are meeting Monday to talk about the 49 candidates who applied for the position since it opened in February.  The Jonesboro Sun reports four of the candidates are from Arkansas.  Shane Hunt, dean of the A-State College of Business, and Lyon College provost in Batesville Philip Cavalier are the only two in Northeast Arkansas to apply for the position.

ASU System spokesperson Jeff Hankins told the Sun the university hopes to name the new chancellor by June 1.  Hankins said the plan is to show the final list of candidates the Jonesboro campus sometime in May.

The Chancellor position was vacated by Tim Hudson in August following an internal audit.  Doug Whitlock of Eastern Kentucky University has served as Interim Chancellor since September.

Whitlock's contract ends June 30.
