Resurfacing projects in Jonesboro

The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements to roadways in Craighead County, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The purpose of the project is to resurface 2 miles of County Roads 17, 494, and 525.  The areas are listed below:

In Jonesboro:

Co. Rd. 17 (Weaver Rd.)-work extends north from WPA Rd. for 0.5 miles.

Co. Rd. 494 (Craighead Co. 745)-work extends south from Pine Log Road for one mile.

Co. Rd. 525 (WPA Rd.)-work extends east from Weaver Rd. for 0.6 miles.

Atlas Asphalt of Batesville, Arkansas was awarded the contract at $239,363.02.

This county road project is funded through the State Aid County Road Program established by the legislature and administered by the State Aid Division of the Arkansas State Highway & Transportation Department. This program provides approximately $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist counties with projects of their choosing on the county road system.

Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete this summer.

Upon graduation from Arkansas State University in 1996 with a degree in Radio-Television Broadcast News, he decided that he wanted to stay in radio news. He moved to Stuttgart, Arkansas and worked for East Arkansas Broadcasters as news director and was there for 16 years.
