Resurfacing project in Craighead County

The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements to roadways in Bono and Brookland, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.

The purpose of the project is to resurface 3.4 miles of roadways in Bono and Brookland. The streets are listed below:

In Bono:

Alta St.-work extends east from Danny St. to Robin St. for 0.3 miles.

Carson St.-work extends east from Danny St. to Robin St. for 0.3 miles.

Michael St.-work extends south from S. Main St. to Danny St. for 0.1 miles.

E. Oak St.-work extends east from N. Main St. to Wyatt St. for 0.2 miles.

Robin St.-work extends south from E. College St. to Michael St. for 0.2 miles.

Wyatt. St.-work extends south from E. Oak St. to E. College St. for 0.2 miles.

In Brookland:

N. Bernis-work extends north from Stevens Ave. to W. School St. for 0.5 miles.

Barnett/Missouri St.-work extends north from E. Mathews St. to E. School St. for 0.5 miles.

S. Oak St.-work extends south from W. School St. to Stevens Ave. for 0.5 miles.

Atlas Asphalt of Batesville, Arkansas was awarded the contract at $409,905.15.

This project is being funded through the State Aid City Streets Program established by the legislature and administered by the State Aid Division of the Arkansas State Highway & Transportation Department.  This program provides approximately $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist cities with projects selected by a nine-member panel of Arkansas mayors.

Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete this summer.

He was first bitten by the radio bug after he graduated from Gosnell High School in 1992. While working on his undergraduate degree, he worked at KOSE, a small 1,000 watt AM commercial station in Osceola, Arkansas. Upon graduation from Arkansas State University in 1996 with a degree in Radio-Television Broadcast News, he decided that he wanted to stay in radio news. He moved to Stuttgart, Arkansas and worked for East Arkansas Broadcasters as news director and was there for 16 years.
