A special election to consolidate Walnut Ridge and College City could be in early May, according to Lawrence County officials.
County Clerk Tina Stowers told the Jonesboro Sun a 60-day notice must be given before a special election is held, which would be May 10.
Officials from Walnut Ridge and College City have submitted petitions to the county clerk to consolidate their towns late last week.
If voters pass the consolidation, a special committee will redraw the ward lines and College City residents can run for office in the November election.
An official date for the consolidation special election will be announced sometime after this week’s primary.
