Out of the Dark gives grants to Craighead County schools

Out of the Dark Inc. is proud to announce that the Board of Directors has awarded the sum of $14,800.00 to four (4) of the Out of the Dark School Chapters in Craighead County, Arkansas. 
    
The Out of the Dark School Chapters that were approved for funding for the 2014-2015 school year: 

Bay Elementary’s S.T.A.N.D. Out of the Dark Club
MacArthur Junior High 
Nettleton Junior High and
Valley View High School 

The Out of the Dark Mini-Grant Program was established to provide community funding for in-school leadership/addiction awareness activities to support all of the Out of the Dark School Chapters. The initial funding for the program was provided by private donations, fundraisers by groups such as Gearhead Outfitters and John 3:16 Ministries along with state funding through the efforts of State Representatives, Harold Copenhaver, Butch Wilkins and Homer Lender. 

School Sponsors from each of the schools will be at the next Craighead Out of the Dark Coalition (CODC) meeting to inform the community about their plans for the 2014-2015 school year. The meeting will be held this Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at Mid-South Health Systems, 2707 Browns Ln., Jonesboro, Arkansas and is open to the community. 

 

Johnathan Reaves is the News Director for KASU Public Radio. As part of an Air Force Family, he moved to Arkansas from Minot, North Dakota in 1986. He was first bitten by the radio bug after he graduated from Gosnell High School in 1992. While working on his undergraduate degree, he worked at KOSE, a small 1,000 watt AM commercial station in Osceola, Arkansas. Upon graduation from Arkansas State University in 1996 with a degree in Radio-Television Broadcast News, he decided that he wanted to stay in radio news. He moved to Stuttgart, Arkansas and worked for East Arkansas Broadcasters as news director and was there for 16 years.
