Open call for entries to the 2016 Delta Flix Film and Media Festival

Arkansas State University

Entries are now being taken for next year’s Delta Flix Film and Media Festival.  This will take place next year as part of the annual Delta Symposium that will be held next April on the campus of Arkansas State University.  Dr. Michael Bowman is an Assistant Professor at Arkansas State University’s College of Media and Communication and is creator of the festival.  He tells about the festival.

“We started it last year as a way to have a venue for people to showcase their work, be it in film or video.  We wanted to expand it a little bit more than other film festivals where we included other forms of media, such as photography and multi-media presentations.  That is one of the reasons why we call it the Delta Flix Film and Media Festival.”  (Italics intended for emphasis.)

He says the partnership with the Delta Symposium was a great benefit to the festival, especially in its inaugural year.

“We learned a lot from last year’s festival, but it was great to partner with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and hold the festival in conjunction with the Delta Symposium.  It was so successful that we are doing the same thing this year.”

He tells what will be different for this year’s festival.

“This year, we are opening the call of entries to middle school and high school students.  As you know, students at that age are very media-savvy.   We are wanting to open it up to them and issue a challenge to bring their best work and show how they can tell stories through different forms of media.  We think this will be a huge benefit for the festival.”

The theme for next year’s festival is the same as the Delta Symposium which is “Representing Cultural Heritage”.

“I think the theme is broad enough where we can get some great interpretation of heritage, be it through music, history, or other forms.  We are looking for stories that can reflect cultural all over the region, not just in northeast Arkansas.”

The deadline for entries is January 15th.  The Delta Flix Film and Media Festival will be held April 13th through the 16th. More information can be found here.
