Jonesboro sales tax reallocation plan passes

The reallocation of a Jonesboro sales tax formula has passed in a special election held yesterday.  Craighead County Clerk Kade Holliday released unofficial numbers from yesterday's election, and the measure passed 612-348, roughly a 63% margin for the change while 36% voted against.  Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin tells Talk Business & Politics he was pleased with the result, and says he can start working on next year's budget.  The plan involved a one-cent sales tax that was passed by voters in 2000.  Half of the proceeds went toward capital improvements with the rest going toward maintenance and operations.  The new formula change will allow for all of the money to go to the general fund, to help pay off several projects more quickly.
