The Jonesboro Metropolitan Planning Organization is getting closer to implementing an Active Transportation Plan.  The plan would be in place for the next 5 years and would work on improving transportation needs for those who choose not to use vehicles.  Director of the Jonesboro MPO Erica Tait spoke to the Craighead County Quorum Court.  She says the current plan has been in the works for about one year…it has been formed through a lot of public comments and concerns about transportation planning.

"There were a lot of concerns about transportation not being connected, traffic congestion, adding and maintaining sidewalks and making things better for those who want to get around without driving."

Erica Tait.  She says a draft plan will be presented to the public for final input meetings on September seventh at the Parker Park Community Center and on September 12th at the Allen Park Community Center.  The final active transportation plan will be implemented in November.  The Jonesboro Metropolitan Planning Organization consists of Jonesboro, Brookland, Bono and parts of Craighead County.
