Jonesboro residents begin early voting today (Tuesday) on 2 different measures.  Voters will get to decide on who will fill the vacant alderman seat for Ward 6, Position 1 left by Tim McCall.

McCall resignedfrom his seat in early January after moving out of his ward.  The 5 candidates running for the position are Phillip Cook, Dr. Richard Wang, Captain James Boweman, Joseph Woodbury, and Bobby Long.

You can watch the candidates debate on issues such as police salary, property maintenance code, economic development, and more here.

Also on the ballot is a measure to repeal the property maintenance code ordinance.  A group who opposed the code submitted the required number of signatures in February to move for a special election.

Those voting “for” the measure will be voting to repeal the ordinance which strikes down the code.  Those voting “against” the measure will be voting against the repeal which keeps the code in place.

More details on voting about the ordinance can be found here

Voting takes place at the Craighead County Election Annex on West Jefferson Ave.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, May 10.
