JETS starts a new route in Jonesboro

The Jonesboro Economical Transit System is adding a new route today.  Director Steve Ewart says Route 57 will serve Northeast Jonesboro.  The bus will make stops about every 30 minutes and will connect the neighborhoods and institutions in the vicinity of East Aggie Road and Airport Road, the new NEA Baptist Hospital, and the area around Pleasant Grove Road with  Arkansas State University and the rest of Jonesboro.  Ewart says the route has been planned for more than two years and will be available from 5:43 am to 6:09 pm.  More information here:

JETS is pleased to announce that Route 57, Fixed Route service to portions of Northeast Jonesboro, will commence September 2, 2014.  This service will utilize 30 minute headways ( the bus will serve each Route 57 stop every 30 minutes) and will operate between the hours of 5:43 a.m. and 6:09 p.m.

Route 57 has been in planning for more than two years and JETS is excited to use this service to connect the neighborhoods and institutions in the East Aggie Road/Airport Road vicinity, the campus of NEA Baptist Hospital, and the area around Pleasant Grove Road with the rest of Jonesboro and Arkansas State University.

JETS Fixed Route ridership is burgeoning, with data through July showing a 52% increase in 2014 over the same period in 2013.  The data for the first three weeks of August 2014 indicates a 70% increase in Fixed Route ridership over August 2013.

Additionally, since Memorial Day 2014,  643 Fixed Route trips have been taken by passengers who have used JETS front-mounted bike racks to transport their “rides” as well. JETS began a “Rack-n-Ride” program on all of its Fixed Route buses in 2009.  More “Rack-n-Ride” trips have been taken since Memorial Day than since this program’s inception.

Attached to this email is a copy of the JETS Master Schedule that shows the manner by which Route 57 integrates into JETS comprehensive Fixed Route system. Additionally, there is a route map for Route 57 attached to this email.
