How long will this rain last?
KASU news asked that question to Memphis National Weather Service Forecaster Corey Chastelson. He said this rain could continue into the weekend.
“We’re not expecting much change across the mid-south as we’ll see ample low level moisture from the Gulf of Mexico; along with several upper level disturbances move along this stalled out boundary,” Chastelson said.
“This will result in additional showers and thunderstorms across the region into the upcoming weekend with heavy rainfall definitely possible.”
Chastelson said the heaviest areas of rain are expected to be in areas along points of the Mississippi River.
The Associated Press reports some counties along the river in Southern Arkansas and West Tennessee have closed schools and roads due to the flooding caused by the heavy rain.
Officials remind drivers to turn around; don’t drown when encountering a roadway covered with water.
