Jonesboro Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred over the weekend involving a former officer.

Retired JPD Captain Rohnny McDaniel, 79 of Jonesboro, was riding a moped Saturday morning when he hit a Chevy Tahoe driven by Thomas Wofford, 89, of Jonesboro.  The accident occurred at the I-555 southbound ramp at Parker and Woodsprings road.

McDaniel was air-lifted to the Med in Memphis later that day.  Media outlets report he was pronounced dead from his injuries Sunday morning.

Wofford gave a sample of his blood to the police as routine for traffic accidents involving serious injury or death.  He was not injured in the accident.

Funeral services for McDaniel are to be announced at a later date.
