Food Bank of NEA receives grant for Backpack Program

The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas has received a 39-thousand dollar grant from C&S Wholesale Grocers.  Development Director of the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas Vicki Pillow says the funds will be used in the Backpack Program:

       

The Backpack Program is in 12 school district and serves over 700 students.  She says that many students are served because of a partnership between the food bank and civic clubs in the community.   The Backpack Program is in 12 school districts and serves over 700 students.  She says this programs like these are needed in Arkansas because of the state’s high food insecurity rate:

Vicki Pillow.  Pillow says 27-percent of the people served by the Food Bank and partner agencies are under the age of 18.  The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas is a member of Feeding America and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. 

          

Johnathan Reaves is the News Director for KASU Public Radio. As part of an Air Force Family, he moved to Arkansas from Minot, North Dakota in 1986. He was first bitten by the radio bug after he graduated from Gosnell High School in 1992. While working on his undergraduate degree, he worked at KOSE, a small 1,000 watt AM commercial station in Osceola, Arkansas. Upon graduation from Arkansas State University in 1996 with a degree in Radio-Television Broadcast News, he decided that he wanted to stay in radio news. He moved to Stuttgart, Arkansas and worked for East Arkansas Broadcasters as news director and was there for 16 years.
