Lawrence County Democrats have nominated a successor for the late Judge Dale Freeman.

In a special election held on Thursday, John Thomison defeated Mary Freeman in a race to become county judge.  Dale Freeman, who was the late husband of Mary Freeman, passed away Saturday and was currently serving as county judge.

Because the 75-year old judge was running unopposed in the November election, Thomison automatically takes the seat and will win the November election.

According to state law, Freeman’s name will remain on the ballot and all votes will go to Thomison.

Mary Freeman congratulated Thomison for winning the election.
