Bookout Sentenced 18 Months in Prison

Former State Senator Paul Bookout has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and 2 years of probation afterwards. 

The Jonesboro Sun reports Bookout received his sentence Wednesday in Little Rock from U. S. District Judge Brian Miller. 

The Jonesboro Democrat pleaded guilty to 1 count of federal mail fraud in 2015. 

Bookout resignedfrom office in 2013 after news broke that he spent more than $150,000 in campaign funds on personal expenses. 

His original sentencing hearing set for November 23, 2015 was pushed back to March for time calculate how much he owed his donors.  About $31,000 has already been repaid to donors according to Bookout’s attorney. 

Miller also ordered that Bookout use 50% of his current funds to pay back donors, dedicate 10% of his gross monthly income towards completely repaying donors after being released from prison, and is prohibited from working at any FDIC insured institution. 

Bookout’s time will be served at the Federal Prison Camp in Millingon, TN.
